This replica Chinook arrow is fresh outta the shop and is a copy of authentic Chinook arrows that originally came from the Columbia River area between northern Oregon and southern Washington state.  This is a 2-part arrow, with a mainshaft of split western red cedar that was split out and then rounded and smoothed into the shaft.  The front was reinforced with a wrapping of sinew and then it was drilled out to receive the hardwood shoot foreshaft. It’s tipped with an elegant jasper Columbia River sweep wing point that’s mounted with pine sap glue and a wrap of elk sinew. The main body of the point is a caramel color, but the tip and the ends of both barbs are reddish brown.  The fletch is turkey tail feathers that are wrapped front and back with elk sinew and glued to the shaft with hide glue.  The sinew wraps are all painted black and the area under the feathers is graced with a 3-ring motif of red.  Identical arrows were used for hunting big game like deer, bighorn sheep and elk.
