This beautiful arrow is a museum-quality replica based on arrow fragments found in the numerous caves that are found scattered across the northern Great Basin.  This arrow copies those original artifacts in every respect.

The main shaft is reed with a greasewood foreshaft fitted into the front.  The foreshaft tapers slightly to the tip, where a small Desert Side Notched point of black obsidian is secured.  It's been glued with pine pitch and is wrapped over with deer sinew.  The fletch is turkey tail feathers wrapped on each end and glued to the shaft with hide glue.  The feathers are trimmed so the rear edge of the feathers are angled forward.  This isn't an accident.  I've actually seen a feather from an arrow found in a cave near Bend Oregon and it was trimmed the same way.  This minimizes the chance of accidentally rubbing the feathers while the bow is being drawn on a nervous deer.  If they do, it creates a distinct scratching noise that can spook deer.  I actually trim my feathers the same way on my own primitive hunting arrows for the same reason, and it's a thrill to know I came to the same solution as the old Paiute hunters once did.  This arrow would have been used for hunting big game like desert mule deer, pronghorn, and bighorn sheep.

Arrow Length: 31 1/2 inches long.  This arrow is shipped in a sturdy PVC pipe to ensure safe delivery to your door.    Shipping cost: $18
