Prehistoric Texas Arrow Replica SOLD

This arrow is a replica of several prehistoric arrows found in a cave in western Texas.  Every aspect of the original arrows was copied in this example. 

The main shaft is made of reed that was carefully straightened over a fire just as the old guys did.  The front end was wrapped with real deer sinew and a foreshaft of salt bush was inserted.  A small corner notched point (classified as a Scallorn point) made of Texas flint is secured to the foreshaft with pine sap glue and deer sinew.  The fletch is Canada goose wing feathers wrapped on both ends with sinew, but they're not glued down.   

This simple, no-nonsense missile was once part of a prehistoric Texas Indian's hunting equipment.  Reed arrows with hardwood foreshafts were very commonly used by many tribes living in the arid western U.S.  The original arrow was discovered in Granado Cave and is believed to be associated with the Rustler Hills people (also called the Castile Culture) between 1,800 and 450 years ago.  It would have been used for hunting a variety of game animals like deer, rabbits, coyotes, and Pronghorn antelope.
