This arrow is a beautiful replica of an authentic Sioux arrow in the Smithsonian's collection that was collected in 1869.  This arrow copies the original in every respect.

The shaft is made from a dogwood shoot.  It's fletched with 2 turkey wing feathers and one canada goose wing feather.  The cock feather has been dyed red as it was on the original and the feathers have been sinew wrapped on each end and glued to the shaft with hide glue.  White fluffs were also added under the forward fletch wrap on the original, so I followed suit.  A simple dark blue band outlined in red was applied under the feathers to copy the paint design of the original arrow.  The nock is large to assist in the pinch-grip that was used on the Plains.  The shaft also has three straight shaft grooves...two are straight and one is wavy just like on the original arrow.  The arrow is tipped with a steel trade point that was made from a circular saw blade that copies the shape of the original point.  The surface of the point is blackened and the edges are silver, just like the original trade points of the late 1800's. And finally the point is wrapped on with sinew and sealed with hide glue. It's a gorgeous copy of the weaponry once used by the Sioux to bring down 2,000 lb buffalo and defend against enemies.

Arrow Specs: Dogwood shoot, metal trade point, turkey wing and Canada goose wing feather fletch, all sinew wrappings.  25 7/8 inches long.
