Black and White Spearpoint

Black novaculite with a translucent band near the tip was chipped into this side-notched spearpoint you see here.  When this point is held up to the light it shines through only in the white band...the black is completely opaque.  This is a really cool point made of one piece of stone with two colors and two different properties.  This stone comes from Arkansas and is mined for its world renown knife sharpening qualities. Luckily it's also available to knappers, but it's very tough when raw and requires heat treat to make it more knapper-friendly.  Click photo for larger image.
