Mook Gunther Barbed Point SOLD

This Gunther point is made of white Mook Jasper with patches of white, pastel pink and purple across its face.  Making such long barbs must be done very slowly and carefully to avoid snapping them off.  Luckily this one was completed without a hiccup.  These points were made by Indians living in Southern Oregon along the Rogue River, which is why they are also sometimes called Rogue River points.  For many years collectors wrongly thought Gunthers were used for shooting fish due to their long barbs, but recent blood protein analysis revealed that these points were actually used for hunting big game, as minute blood proteins from deer and bighorn sheep were found on some Gunther Barbed points from a site in southern Oregon.
