Dichroic Glass Arrowhead Necklace SOLD

If you want a unique necklace, this is it.  This gorgeous necklace is one of the most technically complex I've made so far.  The arrowhead is chipped out of a piece of very colorful dichroic glass.  It has beads of rivercane with designs woodburned into them.  The cane beads are separated by beads of polished palm wood.  

Dichroic glass is created by applying a very thin coating of metal to a thin pane of glass.  It reflects different colors depending on the metal alloy that's fused to the glass and also the angle of the light.  A clear layer of glass is laid on top of the dichro layer, and then it's heated until both layers melt and fuse.  Each piece of dichro is unique because as the glass melts it creates unique textures that can't be repeated again.  The only problem is that cameras don't capture the full brilliance of the dichroic layer.  So I included several photos showing different angles to give you an idea of the different colors contained in the arrowhead, though it really has to be seen to be appreciated. But the necklace can also be flipped over and the backside of the arrowhead (which is completely black and is identical to obsidian) can also be displayed if you aren't in a flashy mood.  My good friend Clay has been doing handmade glass work for years, so I commissioned him to make some dichroic glass blanks for me, and this is one of them.  You'll be seeing more arrowheads made of this gorgeous material, so don't go far.   

The cane beads have a complex design of woodburned patterns that were made using a very fine woodburner.  Each design had to be done very precisely, and because each design is done by hand without any jigs or patterns, I had to burn the designs very slowly.  It took a lot of time to create the pattern, but the results are stunning.
