Obsidian Raptor Knife (SOLD)

This awesome knife has lots of cool features. For one I really like how the blade comes out of the handle.  Its upturned shape reminded me of a hawk's talon, hence its name. The blade is made of obsidian from Glass Buttes, Oregon.  This particular obsidian is known as "triple flow", because it has three different obsidian flows fused together.  Though the blade is mostly smoky clear, it has two very thin black bands near the tip, as well as an arching blotch of black and brown obsidian in the center of the blade.  The blade is set into a handle of Osage orange heartwood, and the yellow color of the Osage gives a great contrast to its black blade.  But it doesn't stop there.  Inset into the handle is a very small Desert Side Notched point.  This point was made with VERY fine and careful pressure flaking.  Making points that small from material as brittle as obsidian must be done very carefully...I actually broke the first point and had to really slow down to complete the point that's on this knife.  And finally, the handle is accented with the skin of a grey squirrel that was killed with a primitive bow annd stone tipped arrow in the winter of 2013.  Definitely one of my favorites!  Display stand is included.  Click photos for larger image.
