Dichroic Glass Arrowheads

This new gallery features arrowheads made from the most colorful and unique material available today: Dichroic glass.  Dichroic glass is created by bonding a thin layer of metal to a sheet of glass in a vacuum chamber.  The reflected colors change depending on the angle of the light and the viewer's position to that light.  No material comes close to the explosion of color created by dichroic glass.  A thin layer of clear glass must be fused on top of the dichroic layer in a kiln so the thin layer isn't chipped away when it's made into an arrowhead.  It's also tricky to chip this type of glass into arrowheads because the dichroic layer must be faithfully followed.  It's so thin that large portions of color can be obliterated with one carelessly placed flake.  Thankfully I love a challenge and I've got the skill to make the beautiful pieces you see here.  I'm very careful to preserve as much color as possible in each piece so the finished arrowhead flashes maximum color and brilliance.  If you think the arrowheads look good in the photos, wait till you see them for yourself.  The camera just can't capture the true intensity of this material.
